Whiteknights trail
Following the success of our 2017 Heritage Day, the
Friends have developed a series of guided tours of the
Whiteknights and London Road campuses. The first of
these, organised for the Berkshire Family History Society,
was held on 23 June 2019. The tour explored the
development of the ‘central’ area of Whiteknights Park,
from 1798 to the present day, through a selection of
buildings and landmarks: Whiteknights Park House and
the botanical gardens (Blandford era), Whiteknights Park,
Blandford Lodge and Whiteknights (Victorian era), the
Edith Morley Building, the Henley Business School, Library
and URS Buildings (University era). The tour was fully
booked and well received by those attending. Amongst
the attendees there was interest in the work of the
Friends and a couple of them said they would consider
joining as a result of the event. Vicki Chesterman, on
behalf of the Berkshire Family History Society, thanked the
Friends very much for organising. The next
tour, exploring the northern part of Whiteknights Park, will
be on 20 July, with tours exploring the London Road
campus planned for September and October.
