For the committee’s consideration: Application for funding of £250.00 towards items for student engagement events
This application is submitted on behalf of the ICMA Centre, Henley Business School. The ICMA Centre teaches finance at UG, PG and PhD level and our student base is international. Student age range is 18+ and just this current year we have upwards of 45 nationalities represented in our student body.
Engaging with students in a non-teaching environment can be a challenge and students engaging with one another at the start of an academic year and getting to know one another especially when from many different cultures can be even more so.
We are asking for a contribution towards the purchase of games of various types so we can invite students to come together in a fun, social environment to begin to get to know one another. Students will be invited to spend time together socialising, playing games and then later we’ll be able to lend out the games so students can socialise together at evenings or weekends.
The games listed here are suggestions, we intend to ask current students for suggestions of the games they think would be of interest to fellow students. We would like to purchase various types of games including board games, card games and DVD based games that are recognised and played in different countries and different styles of games we hope would maximise interest from students. These games may include giant versions of popular games such as Jenga or Connect 4 or newer DVD Escape Room games. Options could include board games of Monopoly, Logo, Cluedo, Operation, or card games such as Uno and standard playing cards. The games are about fun, sharing, getting to know one another and being together.
Buying the games means we can hold student engagement events multiple times a year, especially at the start of the academic year when getting to know your peers and knowing you are not alone is important and for example after exams in January when money can be short and the nights long. The events will always be supervised by staff, so students also have the opportunity to mix socially and get to know some of the staff in the department in a less formal environment.
Your consideration for this project would be greatly appreciated.
