Christchurch Green board
Heritage-type information board using text and photographic images to be erected on Christchurch Green.
Application for a Friends of the University of Reading Grant – April 2021
The Friends of Christchurch Green’ are a small group comprising seven local residents who got together just before lockdown, to look at how to improve
the area and foster community links. We have collectively set up a website
with a 3-year paid up subscription. We intend this to go live and expand our
‘Friends’.
This application is for funding for a heritage-type information board using
text and photographic images to be erected on Christchurch Green. Angled at
knee level, highlighting the history of the Whiteknights Park estate and the
residential area around the Green. This is an ideal position where the
University and the public are in continuous contact with one another. Even
in an age of information, a permanent site offers an introduction to the area,
and creates a sense of belonging to new students and new residents alike.
I have met with Sarah Gardener and discussed the idea which she thought
exciting and a perfect way to link the University of Reading and the
Community. Councillor Ashley Pearce is investigating the Reading Borough
Council Planning application.
The cost quoted by Equal Studio Ltd would be approximately £2,500 + VAT,
which would include design and High Density laminate, and insure that it was
suitably vandal- proof.
